Music & Arts
Wayne County offers a number of opportunities to experience music and the arts, whether you want to participate or just sit back and enjoy. Several venues offer live music performances as well as performances by the Richmond Symphony Orchestra and other performers. Try your acting skills at Richmond Civic Theater or catch a pottery class at the Richmond Art Museum. There’s virtually something for everyone in Wayne County.
Recreation & Fitness
Wayne County is home to numerous parks and outdoor recreation areas. Enjoy one of our outstanding public parks or hike the nature trails at Cope Environmental Center and Hayes Arboretum. The Cardinal Greenway runs through Wayne County and is the longest running rail-to-trail in Indiana providing 62 miles of designated space to walk, run or bike. Richmond is home to a number of fitness centers, yoga studios, and a number of other workout or fitness opportunities. There are also many active baseball and softball leagues as well as several outstanding golf courses.
You’ll never be bored in Wayne County! Community events happen all year long. Fall kicks off with several community festivals like Oktoberfest. Enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas in the historic Depot District featuring carriage rides and entertainment. Welcome Santa with a parade through the downtown culminating in the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Richmond City Building. After the holidays, Richmond gears up for The Meltdown Festival. Professional ice carvers roll into town carving ice sculptures on display all over the downtown and Depot District. Watch the ice fights and enjoy the rest of the entertainment including toys and games carved from ice. Summer welcomes music festivals such as Blast at the Overpass, Depot Fest and much more!

Lectures & Performances
Richmond and Wayne County are fortunate to be home to 6 institutions of higher education as well as the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center. Indiana University East, a branch campus of Indiana University and Earlham College, a liberal arts college, bring in numerous speakers from all over the nation and the world covering a diverse number of topics. Many nationally renown performers have performed on the stage at the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center which is also home to the Richmond Symphony Orchestra.

HYPE (Helping Young People Engage)
HYPE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing resources and events to connect young people in the Wayne County area. The volunteer-driven organization is committed to making the community a better place to live, work, and play. The group organizes the annual beer and wine festival, For the Love of Grapes and Hops, that includes not only great wine and craft beer but local craft vendors as well. The group also organizes monthly themed HYPE nights that includes trivia, cork and canvas, game nights and pub crawls. To recognize hardworking young professionals HYPE hosts Wayne County’s Outstanding Young Professionals awards shining a spotlight on the contributions of young professionals in Wayne County. The group also organizes educational events to provide information on all the aspects of life young adults will encounter in their professional and personal lives.
